"How well he fell asleep! Like some proud river widening toward the sea, Calmly and grandly, silently and deep, Life joined eternity.""When the news came to us that our beloved fellow- worker had answered the summons to a higher life, there was a universal feeling that he had died as he would wish to die, serving to the last. "For almost two generations Professor Bailey (as we loved to call him) had been a familiar and a venerated figure, looming large in our school lives, because,"He bore without reproach The grand old name of---gentleman.""From the first grade through the High School he was eagerly looked for, and his coming was the fullfillment of joy to pupils and teachers alike, for his message of song made our souls, 'to higher levels rise.' "The High School is especially indebted to him for ob- taining the priviledge of credits to pupils studying music on the outside. ..." He is survived by his wife, Loma Kinser Boyd, who resides at Country Oaks at Hamilton Creek in Burnet; daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, John Van Mol, Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Derek (Mary Katherine) Van Mol, Kingston Springs, Tennessee, and Millicent V. Cash (Dr. Michael) of Nashville; great-grandchildren Mary Holine and Elizabeth Ryan Van Mol, and Emaline Ramsay Cash. Mr. Boyd is also survived by brother and sisters, Graham Boyd, Santa Monica, CA, Lucille Keller, Oceanside, CA, and Naomi (Mrs. Karel) Lainen, Mission Viejo, CA. He was predeceased by brother and sisters George Boyd, Elizabeth Boyd, Mary Jolly and Robena Morgan. Mr. Boyd, who settled in Austin, TX after his service in World War II and his marriage to Mrs. Boyd, was a retired employee of the State of Texas who worked as an accountant in the Comptroller's office. He also was retired from the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a patriot and proud member of "America's Greatest Generation," having enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served until its end of World War II and his discharge in September of 1945. Mr. Boyd served with the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion from its inception at Camp Swift, Texas, and it was there in Texas that he met his future wife, Loma Kinser. Mr. Boyd and the 86th served through all the major campaigns in the European theater of operations, Normandy, the Rhineland Ardennes ("Battle of the Bulge") and Central Europe. Mr. Boyd and his Comrades In Arms fought in support of General Omar Bradley's First Army after the D-Day Invasion in 1944, and by late summer the 86th was providing firepower to support General George S. Patton's Third Army in driving the German forces out of France and back toward Germany. Mr. Boyd was separated from active service with the rank of master sergeant in the headquarters company, although he later re-enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Mr. Boyd maintained a lifelong association with his wartime friends, and was faithful in his attendance at virtually all of the 86th reunions until his health prevented him from doing so in recent years. He was a member and elder in Wilshire Presbyterian Church in Austin until he and Mrs. Boyd moved to Burnet earlier this year. A memorial service will be held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 East Polk, Burnet, TX at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007, with visitation to follow at Country Oaks at Hamilton Creek, 407 West Jackson in Burnet. CHRISTIAN, JOHN '63 hit by car while walking home --
Ed Clark - '28 (Did not graduate), b.03 JUL 1911 in Bedford county, TN d.22 JAN 2000 in Sarasota, FL (LIFE Mag Photog) "If a photograph can arrest you for a moment, then you’ve really got something." Ed rode the streetcar to school one day (in his Junior year) and he just failed to get off at Hume Fogg and rode to the Banner-Tennessean Photo lab. He "hung out" there, doing odd jobs in exchange for an occasional lesson in photography. He perservered until an opening became available as a "Staff Photographer" - eventually he became a "Stringer" for LIFE Magazine, at which time he became a "World Traveler" and aquainted with Presidents, Politicians, Movie Stars and Gangsters. He regularly was posted "on Assignment" in Georgia, Alabama, D.C., Hollywood or when France was liberated, Paris and western Europe! Mr CLARK became so well-thought-of, he was THE FIRST American Photographer allowed into Communist Russia during "The Cold War". It was widely believed that a photo by Ed CLARK would be most descriptive of "The True Situation"; whether it was of a politician or a revolution - from Ezra BENSON to "Ike" EISENHOWER, Ed was the best. Jackie KENNEDY 'ordered' 150 copies of a photo she told him he couldn't take! - the famous one of Caroline awaking from her nap in her 'crib'. He lost the sight in one of his eyes about the same time that television was replacing LIFE (ca1963) as a News Medium. After becoming a bldg. contractor in Bethesda, MD, he retired to Nashville and lived off Hwy 100 (in the vicinity of Alton Drive) and in 1982 had his eye success- fully operated on (it was a cataract). It renewed his enthusiasm and he visited Nashville State Technical Institute (on White Bridge Road) in 1991 to learn the newer developments in B&W and COLOR printing. The Community College WAS the home of The Ed CLARK Gallery, the only permanent collection of his photographs, auctioned in September 1988 to benefit the "Nashville Tech Foundation student scholarship program." He then moved to Sarasota, Florida where he lived with his wife Joyce until his death at age 88 in 2000. Ed Clark did not try to articulate what photography meant to him: "A philosophy would screw me up," he said. "Our senses are so assailed by different things. I just tried to get people to stop." Possibly, Ed is still contributing to the success of at least two Photography Studios that bear something resembling his name: EdClarkPhotography and, . Ironically both are located in Illinois... but I don't believe there is any connection.

EVANS, Mary Frances (Crutcher), '45, - b.24 Oct 1926 d.27 Feb 2000 (V) Age 73 (Rutherford, TN 37167) Issued: TN SSDI "She had two children, Vickie (HFT 1970) and an older brother, Gary. She worked at various H.G. Hill stores for 38 years. Mom passed away in 1999. She had two major strokes which brought about heart problems and diabetes. She fought daily for 9 years to regain physical abilities that she lost. And right to the end, she was as mentally alert and beaming with personality as she had always been through life. Mom loved HFT. We grew up hearing her talk fondly about her time spent at HFT. I'm sure it would make her smile radiantly down upon everyone if she could let her classmates know how very much she cherished her time spent with them at HFT. Mom can't, but maybe with your help I can. Mom is loved and missed dearly."

GOLDIN, Dorothy G. (ZIBLAT), January 15, 1916 - February 17, 2008. ZIBLAT, DOROTHY GOLDIN b.15 Jan 1916 d.17 Feb 2008 Age:92 Tucson, Pima, AZ 85716 Issued: IL SSDI Dorothy Ziblat was born January 15, 1916 to William and Anna Goldin in Chicago, Illinois. She died February 17, 2008, in Tucson, Arizona. The cause of death was pneumonia as a complication of Parkinson's disease. Dorothy's young years were spent in Chicago. At the age of nine, her appendix burst. Upon her recovery she was given the middle name of Eve. She graduated from Hume Fogg High School in Nashville, Tennessee and then attended Business College. She married Harry N. Ziblat August 29, 1937, in Chicago, and had two children, Barbara and Alan. She and Harry later divorced. Dorothy and her children came to Tucson December 31, 1952. She worked as a bookkeeper and bought a house. She then began fulfilling a lifelong dream - investing in rental property. Her success was a great source of pride to her and her family. Aside from being an astute businesswoman - far ahead of her time - Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, especially poker - dancing and traveling. As the effects of the Parkinson's disease worsened, Dorothy and her family were fortunate to have caregivers who watched over her and kept her comfortable. They were our "support system." We thank "big" Mary, Sue, "little" Mary, Cheryl, Sandra, Gloria and of course, Margaret and Shirley. You enabled us to keep our Mom at home and we are eternally grateful. Dorothy was the cherished sister of Archie (Helen) Goldin of Chicago, Illinois; she was also a beloved aunt and cousin with extended family in Illinois and Tennessee. Our mother's greatest love was for her children, Barbara and Jerry Snyder and Alan Ziblat. Even after Parkinson's disease crippled her body and took over her mind, she could always tell us she loved us. She was amazing and irreplaceable. We will miss her forever. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 1:00 P.M. in Evergreen Cemetery, B'nai B'rith Section with Rabbi Shafir Lobb officiating. No flowers please. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
